How to Cut or Trim Bangs/Fringe

Today's post is a tutorial on how to cut or trim your own bangs yourself, without having to make a trip to your local salon.

I will talk you through step by step with pictures to explain how to do so. Let's get started!

The tools. What you'll need is a rat tail comb, a pair of sharp scissors, and a hair tie.

Step One. The first thing you want to do is, using the point of the comb, start at the edge of your eyebrows and create a diagonal part on each side to create a triangle shape, as shown in the picture. Pull the rest of your hair back into a ponytail, out of the way.

Step Two. Comb hair to the opposite side that it normally sits on. (If your hair is parted on the left, comb it to the right. If parted on the right, comb to the left.) Hold the hair in between your middle and index fingers and slide them down until the tip of your index finger matches up to the tip of your nose. This will be your guide as to how long the bangs should be. Hold the hair at an angle to where your fingers are slanted downward.

Step Three. Cut across in an upward slant, using the guideline you made in step two. Remember not to cut your hair too short at first. You can always go back in and trim it after.

Step Four. After you cut, comb the bangs back over to see the length. Depending on your preference, trim to desired length. Remember, if you are pulling down on the hair to determine length, the hair will be shorter than it appears when not being pulled. I prefer the highest part, or starting part, to be at the tip of my nose, as you can see in the picture.

Step Five. To create a less blunt look and add a more layered look, comb the bangs in front of you, hold the scissors vertically and clip tiny bits across the bottom of the bangs at random. If this step scares you, then you can skip this part. It's really just to add a bit more dimension.

That is it! I hope you found this tutorial helpful and decide to try it! Please let me know if it worked for you or if you have any questions!
